# Running a live conference

> Mute, kick, lock, record and end a room that is happening now, without being able to create one.

A conference room is configuration: its number, its PINs, its rules, its
default members. That belongs to the organisation admin. **The live room is
yours** — the meeting that is happening at this moment — because that is what
somebody running a shift needs during a meeting.

## The controls

You can also **dial somebody into a room**: the room rings them and joins
them when they answer.

Ending a room ends it for every person in it, and the panel asks first.

## Two kinds of room, one set of buttons

The same controls appear on a room made two different ways, and who may use
them differs:

* **A dial-in room** — one the organisation set up, with a number people
  call. You may control it.
* **A merged room** — the one that appears when somebody conferences two
  calls together. Whoever may control the **call it was made from** may
  control the room, which for an agent means a call one of whose legs is
  their own. A room cannot be used to reach a call somebody could not
  otherwise touch.

There is a third way in, and it is the one people actually use in a meeting:
**being in the room yourself**. Somebody without the permission who has
dialled in is reached through their own leg, and can act on the room they are
sitting in.

## When it refuses

A room that has ended, or one belonging to an organisation you cannot see,
reads as not found. A control that the phone system itself refused says which
action failed and is logged with your name against it.

Reading rooms and their sessions is yours. Creating a room, editing one,
